Why February Is the Perfect Time to Run a Studio Challenge (and Bring Clients Back)

An ipad mockup of Smooth Sailings latest offering

February is a bit of a reset month for studios — especially here in Australia.

School holidays wrap up.
Kids go back to school.
Life starts to settle (… after the manic hour of power getting everyone out the door!)

And for a lot of parents, they finally get a bit of time back.

Not heaps but just enough to give them some headspace to think about their goals for the year.

That’s why February is such a strong moment to bring clients back into the studio — if you approach it the right way.

This isn’t about “new year, new you”

By the time February rolls around, most people are done with:

  • big fitness promises
  • pressure to do everything perfectly
  • feeling guilty for not sticking to January goals

What they actually want is:

  • to establish a routine that they can maintain
  • accountability without pressure
  • something that’s just for them

This is where February challenges work best — not as a transformation, but as structure and support.

The best February challenges are about showing up

The most effective challenges I see aren’t complicated.

They’re simple, clear, and realistic:

  • 2–3 sessions a week
  • a short timeframe (2–4 weeks)
  • no perfection required

The challenge isn’t doing more.
It’s making attendance easier.

When clients know:

  • what they’re committing to
  • when they’re coming
  • and that it’s already locked into their calendar

they are far more likely to follow through.

Why February is the perfect moment to sell packs and memberships

By this point, clients:

  • know their kids’ school schedules
  • can see where they have time again
  • are starting to crave consistency and routine

A February challenge creates the perfect bridge into:

  • a class pack
  • or a membership with a clear weekly rhythm

Instead of asking clients to “join” or “commit long-term”, you’re offering:

“Let’s lock this in for the next few weeks and see how you feel.”

That feels manageable. Supportive. Low pressure.

For studios, this often looks like:

  • a challenge pack that naturally rolls into a membership
  • a member-only bonus for committing to more sessions
  • or a clear recommendation afterwards: “If you want to keep this routine going, this option makes the most sense.”

Need support getting yours set up?

Do you need someone to?

  • set the challenge up cleanly
  • create the right messaging
  • make sure the backend actually supports it
  • create automations to upsell post-challenge

I’m always happy to help ⚓
